sations across the world were
encouraged to undertake a
major project in 2017 to cel-
ebrate 100 years of Lions.

At its February monthly
meeting, Renmark Paringa
Council voted in favour of the
shelter to be installed.
Infrastructure includes a bar-
becue shelter with paved floor,
two disabled-access barbecues,
a table and seats, lighting and a
waste bin enclosure.
“Our club decided to build
this barbecue shelter next
to our existing playground
because there is no other
community barbecues in this
vicinity,” Mrs Maddocks said.
“The finished structure will
be suitably adorned with spe-
cial signage celebrating 100
years of Lions and acknowl-
edging the Lions Club of
Renmark, ALF and Renmark
“These facilities will com-
plement the existing Lions
Playground, which was con-
structed back in 1997.
“The barbecue shelter will
be of benefit to our community
for many years to come.”
Work on the project is
expected to start this month
and finished by the end of May.
Once completed, the shel-
ter will be officially opened by
Mayor Neil Martinson and the
opening will also involve a free
community barbecue sponsored
by the Lions Club.

THE Gospel Tent has arrived at the
Pump Station Park, near Crawford
Terrace, in Berri.
Clive Barber, from Queensland, and
Bryan Stewart, from Strathalbyn, are
travelling evangelists who preach the
gospel throughout Australia.
Clive has recently arrived in Berri,
having towed the gospel tent from an
outreach in Lidcombe, Sydney.
This is Clive’s first visit to the
Riverland, but Bryan says: “I’ve visited
Berri several times and being an Irish
country boy, I like the atmosphere of
the Riverland. We just want to share
the gospel with the folks here.”
Clive said the gospel changed his life.
“I used to be homeless, involved in
crime and drugs,” he said.
“My life was a misery, but every-
thing changed when I repented and
Bryan was different. Though a reli-
gious lad, he too needed salvation.
“That’s why we want to share the
gospel,” he said.
The meetings are non-denomina-
tional and free for all to visit, to hear
about the good news of God in a neu-
tral setting, whether a church-goer or
“It gives everyone the chance to
hear about the good news of God in a
neutral setting,” Bryan said.
“All that we do is free. When we
hold these meetings, we give away
free picture plaques, Bibles, CDs.
“We never look for people’s money
or make appeals; there are no col-
lections. The good folk of Berri can
get the best gift of all: eternal life. It’s
free, by God’s grace.”
Bryan and Clive describe their style
of meetings as “the old-time and all-
“We speak plainly and seek to tell
it as it is,” they said. “We don’t do the
modern, glitzy meetings, just the old,
old story of Jesus and His love.”
Clive said he was happy that
Bryan’s son, Jack, is also able to help
in the outreach.
Clive and Bryan are in Berri with
their families. You might see their gos-
pel bus and caravan around town.
