A FIRE at Loxton early
Friday morning caused up
to $200,000 damage to two
MFS regional commander
Kevin Eckermann said emer-
gency services received the
callout at about 3am to a
shop alight on East Terrace.
The building – next to the
Pioneer’s sister paper The
Loxton News – includes a
wine/taco bar and clothing
store, which were both dam-
aged in the fire.
Mr Eckermann said

Service arrived at the scene
to find flames alight in the
wine bar’s kitchen.
“The owner of the build-
ing had received a call from
her security company to say
one of her tamper alarms
was going off,” he said.
“She went down and
looked through the front
window and could see there
was something happening at
the back of the shop, so she

store and located the fire in
the back of the shop in the
kitchen/storeroom and back
behind the fridge in the bar

$100,000 to a nearby dress
shop and up to $100,000
damage to the wine bar.
“Most of the damage in
the bar was done to the ceil-
ing and walls,” he said.
“We had to pull some of
the ceiling down to prevent
the fire spreading across the
roof to other shops.
“The early warning and
fire crews’ quick response
time meant they were able
to save up to three quarters
of the property, which was a
great job done by the crews
on the scene.
“It is one of those
situations where even though
we didn’t get a fire alarm,
we did get an early warning
from the building owner
because she had some form
of security there.
“It is really crucial for
people to be vigilant when
they see anything and to
notify the fire service,
because unfortunately a lot
of times we only get the
call when the flames have
reached the roof and it is
too late for us to save the
