SO... GET CYCLING
THE Barmera Inline Hockey Club is back
in action, with players returning to the rink
for the first time in over a year.
New club president Braydon Hoggett
said a recent rise in player interest had
prompted the return of the club.
“The club never really stopped,” he said.
“It just had a quiet period where it lacked
The club is currently running small
matches between players every Wednesday
and Mr Hoggett encouraged locals to get
“Inline hockey is great for fitness and
every player has a great time,” he said.
“Anybody is welcome to play hockey
as we have multiple teams for all ages and
skill levels. We do have spare hockey gear
in our store room but it is very limited.
“It would be great to see former play-
ers returning, but I would also strongly
encourage participation of new arrivals.
“It gives players the opportunity to rep-
resent the Riverland or South Australia
and, in some cases, even Australia.”
The club also hosts the Barmera Viking
Challenge run by the North Vikings Inline
Hockey Club each year.
All matches are held at the Barmera
inline hockey rink, located next to the
Barmera Skate Park, every Wednesday at

COBDOGLA’S Luke Saville has been
warming for the Australian Open in the
World Tennis Challenge in Adelaide.
Saville, 21, has been taking on a mix of
current stars and former champions and is
also teaming up with tennis legend John
McEnroe for the doubles.
Saville was named as a late replace-
ment for injured Croatian Marin Cilic.
The event has seen Saville and
McEnroe joined by former greats
Michael Chang and Goran Ivanisevic,
and world number seven Tomas Berdych,
Mikhail Youzhny (47), Marcos Baghdatis
(77), and Australian champion Lleyton
Hewitt (86). Last night, fresh off the
plane from Melbourne, Saville lost to
Baghdatis 2-6, 2-6.
However, he bounced back to defeat
Baghdatis and Chang with McEnroe in a
Fast Four doubles match.
Wednesday night he took on Youzhny
in the singles and he and McEnroe played
Youzhny and Ivanisevic in the doubles.
Saville will today find out his opening
round opponent for the Australian Open.
