WAIKERIE'S Wes Bald
won his third Riverland
Golf Association matchplay
championship at Waikerie
Bald beat last year's cham-
pion Andrew Hume, of Loxton,
in a tight match.
Hume took a one-hole
lead after three holes and the
pair continued to trade wins
throughout the match.
Both played solid golf and
were square after 16.
Bald parred the 17th to go
one up and won the last to win

well at the Loxton Kart Club
Championships on Sunday.
With a massive 190 nomina-
tions as drivers started prepar-
ing for next month's national
championships, Loxton and
Renmark drivers held their
own in the classy field.
Bradley Hembling took out
the 125 heavy class ahead of
Loxton clubmate Keke Falland.
Loxton's Kevin Manuel won
the 200 open, with Renmark's
Rob Cortilizes hot on his heels.
Morgan's Daniel Wenske
won the 100 open, with
Renmark's Josh Ryan in third
place, while Morgan's Brooke
Alexander took out the outlaw
class ahead of Renmark's John
Robinson. Renmark's David
Hartman (KT heavy) and
Adam Allchin (J open) finished
third in their respective classes.
The club is expecting over
370 drivers at the national
championships on the October

the Riverland at the State Country Athletics
Championships at Santos Stadium in Adelaide
The event will be held on Monday, with ath-
letes vying for a spot in the state team to travel
to Penguin, Tasmania, in November.

coach the Riverland team.

Spinners 7-5 in Tuesday night's
Desperados got off to a good
start in the doubles, with captain
Barry Williams teaming up with
teammates Steve Hampel and Paul
Haenen to take a 2-1 lead early in
Top Spinners fought back in the
singles, with Rod Stoeckel and
Geoff Haby each picking up two
wins, but it was not enough.
In the other semi-final it was
as close as it gets, with Action
Rollers advancing to the prelimi-
nary final with a one-set win over
Action Rollers were 5-6 down
with the last game to be played
between Action Rollers captain
Dennis Robinson and Terminators
captain Peter Rogers.
Robinson defeated Rogers in
straight sets, bringing the scores
level at 6-6, but giving his side an
advantage on sets.
